Thanks for being a part of this new online small group. Our plan is to read through the New Testament and the Psalms over the next year.
The reading layout is simple. Monday to Friday there will be readings from the NT, Saturday will be a reading from the Psalms and Sunday will be a day to either catch up, take a break or spend time focusing on the scripture from the service.
We will keep each other accountable by asking that each participant comment once each week on the blog. Your comments can be as simple as an "I did it" to "Pray for me I'm falling behind" to questions or insights you have from the week's readings. (Important: everyone will have access to your comments so be mindful of how personal you want to be.)
Each week I will post the readings for the following week. There will also be a link from this page to Bible Gateway where you can read the Scripture online in the version of your choice.
We hope to have a couple of get togethers throughout the year to celebrate our successes and encourage each other in the readings.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Happy New Year everyone!
ReplyDeleteA couple of things that struck me in the first chapter: 1. In vs 18, Zechariah asks the angel a question and is admonished for his lack of faith. I wonder how he must have sounded because the translation I used just states that he asked, "How can this be?" In any case, God wasn't pleased with his questioning and caused him not to be able to speak.
This leads me to # 2. Zechariah was not able to speak until the child was born. When it came time to name the child, the people used gestures to ask Zechariah what the child's name should be (vs. 62) Was he deaf as well as dumb?
When the angel visits Mary and informs her that she'll have a baby she questions how. The angel replies that the Holy Spirit has come upon her...and uses Elizabeth as an example of another miracle birth. Than the angel says, "FOR NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD!" What a fitting verse to look ahead into 2009! God instilled 2 miracle conceptions...what miracles can He do for us and in our surroundings as we look ahead into the unknown of 2009! We have to remember "nothing is impossible with God."
