  1. I have to admit that coming into this small group, I had some doubts and fears. I was worried I would fall behind and I was scared that people would think my comments would sound like dumb or that I would sound like a "baby christian." Call me shallow but that is seriously what I thought.
Then I read Psalms 3:6. It says, "I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on either side." Now I know that I don't have enemies breathing down my neck about to kill me, but that doesn't mattter. Reading this helped me realize that I don't have to worry. God will stand with me and take away those fears however small those fears may be.
I think this verse is a great one to take with us into the new year. Let's all remember that we don't have to fear. We should be encouraged that God will take away those fears and leave you with joy.

  2. Psalm 2:11 "Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling". This verse was a great reminder for me because it reminded me that God is holy. He is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords. There is no one above him. I think people get too comfortable with God, including myself. We forget who's in charge. Yeah, he's our friend, but he is the one and only true God.

I agree with Wannetta on Luke 1:37. This is such a powerful verse and it can take us so far. "For nothing is impossible with God." When I first started to read the passages, there were verses inside my head screaming "You can't do this, a whole year? You're crazy!" I knew this was Satan and repeating this verse made me realize the power in what God can do. I couldn't do this on my own, but with God I can!

  3. In Psalms 4:1-3 it really got to me on how god is always listening to you at all times. You know, sometimes you kinda think twice that god is actually listening to you because of all the times you've messed up, but god has so much unfailing love and he is so awsome and is listening always.

    God Rules!!!

  4. On my comment, I wrote "there were verses inside my head screaming...", well that is very wrong. Its suppossed to say there were VOICES inside my head. Sorry, if you were confused.

  5. Kris that is a good point God is listening all the time and even though we might say something wrong or even hear something that maybe we shouldn't have he is there and you reminded me of that. GOD is GOOD

  6. In Luke 3 I found 2 things that I found caught my attention. One is that we as sinners aren’t worthy enough to untie the sandals of Jesus. Even as Christians we are not that worthy but God loves us so much that we will never have to untie anyone sandals because we are his children. God says that we will be put beside his throne in heaven. Doesn’t that just blow your mind? The second thing is that John said that he baptizes people with water but Jesus will baptize us in the Holy Spirit and with fire. I don’t quite understand why he would baptize us with fire. Any answer would be helpful.

  7. In Luke 4:29 found it really intresting when Jesus is in his own home town and they don't even except him as the christ and want to push him over a cliff , but later on in luke 4 when Jesus meets the demon possessed man, the demon in the man knows that he is Jesus of Nazerth and says the Holy one sent from god. It is really sad that not even the people from his home town excepted him but the demon in the man knew who Jesus was the moment he saw Jesus. Just thought i'd mention that.

  10. Luke 4, i wonder at the permission (power?) satan had to have his way with Jesus in a sence and take Him to different places to tempt Him...why did Jesus go with him?
Interesting too how quickly the people turned on Jesus, first they were really impressed with Him but as soon as He said some things they didnt like, they were ready to stone Him....makes me wonder how many times i have stoned Jesus by my attitude or actions...

  11. A couple of thoughts about Tamara's questions about baptizing with fire.
    - The fire could represent the work of the Holy Spirit on bringing judgment on those who refuse to repent.
    - fire is also used as a symbol of purifying which you find that word picture used in Scripture.
Just a couple of random thoughts. I'd like to hear others.

  12. Interesting in Luke 6 verse 11 says that after Jesus healed the man on the Sabbath those around him were "furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus." I don't know how common healings were in those days but to witness the power of God in a healing and to respond with anger because it appeared to be outside the "rules" boggles me. It makes me think what "rules" do we have that hinder us seeing God working around us.

  13. When I read Luke 3 on Monday, I marveled at the detail that went into the recording of Jesus' genealogy. I must confess that when I was younger, I often quickly skipped over lists like this in the Bible, "...was the son of...who was the son of..." etc. "How boring" I thought. And yet, when I read it now, I am thankful for this very pertinent information in scripture. Jesus ancestry is traced all the way back to Adam who was created (hand-crafted) by God. Luke, shows the credibility of Jesus' ancestral line by not missing any names in all those hundreds (or thousands) of years. Amazing! Could this also be a miracle? Maybe a more subtle one than some of the healings we see later on?

  14. I must say that I have really enjoyed the musings of everyone already. How excellent also to have the grade 9 group share their thoughts (Katie, Alyssa, Kris, Tamara and maybe a few others yet to). You guys have made some excellent observations and shared some great personal thoughts as well! You guys rock!!

  15. Three things from me:
    1. In Luke 6:20-22, Luke says, "God blesses you who are poor, you who are hungry now, you who weep now, you who are hated and excluded and mocked and cursed." And we, in this world, strive our hardest to live a comfortable life, free of any of the above or any pain. Just wondering how much would we be blessed if our lives weren't quite as comfortable through our own doing.
    2. Oh to have faith like the roman officer in chapter 7. Such confidence that Jesus is faithful and will heal! Jesus says, "I haven't seen faith like this in all the land of Isreal!" Would Jesus find that kind of faith today in me, in my family, in our church, in our community, etc.?
    3. Ditto what Don says. It's neat to be in this group with all different ages and be able to learn from each other.
My posting is long enough now!

  16. These last couple days of reading, the thing that has really stuck out to me was Jesus and his forgieness. In John Chapter 5:17-26, Jesus does not just heal this paralized man but also forgives him of all his sins and later in chspter 7 he forgives the woman who annoints his feet with the perfume. And then Jesus syas to the woman "Your faith has saved you; go in peace"... That is just so awsome. It is amazing how wew have such a forgiving and loving god.

  17. I too have to comment on the comments. It's been good to read what each one of you is getting out of the daily chapters. Some of your comments voice what I have gotten out of the readings, and some voice something completely new-which is so cool.
Pleased to say that I've been keeping up-one week closer to our goal!

  18. I love reading everyone's comments. It is so cool that I'm having the same thoughts as others, like Tamara said about us not being worthy to untie Jesus's sandals (Luke 3). This totally boggles my mind. We are not good enough for Jesus's shoe yet he came to earth to know us and love us. Doesn't that just make you want to scream? To know that we are all loved by the most amazing creator! Wow!! Another thing I thought was cool was how the devil tempted and mocked Jesus three times. Each time Jesus had something to condratict what Satan was saying. Satan couldn't hold power over Jesus. We are safe and no one can touch us!

  19. As soon as I read Luke 6:37 about not judging others, it reminded me how everything in my world seems to be surrounding by people judging each other. Such a simple request from our Lord, 'Don't Judge' don't worry about the speck in your brother's eye when you have a log in your own.
We agonize over all the things we should or shouldn't do, and what Jesus means exactly but yet the straight forward ones we ignore? I don't get it but we do it every day and its a sad fact.
Don't judge, apologize when you do. Keep reading His word and maybe there is the next simple job for us around the corner.

  20. Jesus says "But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built his house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destrucion was complete." Luke 6:49

I read this verse and I think about all the people in the world who don't know Christ. Their house is built without a foundation. For some of them, this is their choice, but for others they haven't even heard of God.

I think God put us on this earth to be witness of him. We need to show the whole world that God loves them. We need to be disciples of Christ.

We don't have to go far to tell people about Christ. At school or work... just our actions can show God's love in us. We need to be lights in the dark world we live in.
