I found Acts 20:7 - 12 interesting from a couple of angles. First, in the translation I was reading (New Living Translation), it states, "Paul spoke on and on". It almost sounds like the author believes that Paul is long-winded (fortunately not like Darryl and Peter). Secondly, when a young man falls 3 stories from a window to his death, Paul picks him up, states, "it's ok, he's alive" (that's my paraphrase) and they go in and continue as before. It makes no mention of whether Paul heals the young man; it only states that the man is taken home, unhurt. It's reads like an afterthought to the story. Maybe the author writes this way b/c miracles were so common during these missionary journeys. Interesting... Don
I have been in wonder at the miracles that happened in the Name of Jesus. The way people only had to touch Paul or something he had previously touched in order to be healed, the same way the woman only had to touch the hem of Jesus's cloak to be healed. Miracle after miracle and I can't help but wish that we could see the miracles that Jesus is perfoming now as vividly as they are written in the Bible. Then no one would have any reason to doubt. *Tiff
I was amazed that the people stayed and listen to Paul speak to the wee hours in the morning...to have such a hunger for God's word is truly awesome...
Acts 19:15 tells the story of some Jews who are trying to cast out a demon in the "name of Jesus who Paul preaches." The demon's response is sobering. "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" It was a good challenge to me to keep close to Jesus as I do things in his name and not try to take charge and do them by my own strength. Pastor Peter
Reading these chapters in Acts, I note how desperate and hopeless Paul's situation seemed to be, time after time. Yet, God was working and His ultimate purpose was being realized. I am encouraged then, to trust Him when my situation seems out of control and hopeless, and to remain faithful like Paul was. Not easy, but possible if I keep my focus on Jesus and eternity.
