Worry! Max Lucado says, "Worry has never brightened a day, solved a problem, or cured a disease." An elderly godly woman was noted as saying, "I've had a lot of troubles in my life - and most of it never happened." Grace and guidance are given one day at a time. Matthew 6:32b-34 says, "Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the kingdom of God your primary concern. So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today." So why do I worry?

P.S. Hey, is everyone still out there? I'm missing being blessed by all your postings.
As I read Matt 8, a couple of things stirred some questons. In the first part of the chapter, Jesus heals a man of his leprosy. When he sends the man away, he instructs him to tell no one, but to go and show himself to the priest. I've often wondered why he did this. Why was his instruction so explicit? How hard must it have been for the man to talk to no one about the miracle in his life.
ReplyDeleteIn the last part of the chapter, Jesus casts out demons from two men. After this, the towns people come and plead with him to leave the region. This strikes me as odd but maybe they acted in this way because they were comfortable in their current situation and afraid of the unfamiliar. If that was the case, I hope such would not be the same for me if I was in a similar situation. May we not lose sight of miracles and the wonderful healing of Christ in order to remain in a familiar place in our lives.

Always interesting to read the Gospels and Jesus' words....Jesus healed lots of people but like Don i wondered about the man he healed and then asked not to tell anyone...it's not like people didnt know of him...why did he say that..? I wonder if people really realized what Jesus did in their towns or was it mostly the families that saw first hand that were impacted forever...

Since Peter posted 2 weeks of readings, my last posting was for the first week, and this posting is for the 2nd week.
ReplyDeleteIn Matthew 11 John is imprisoned and sends his disciples to ask a question of Jesus. I have often wondered how John felt at this time, especially with Jesus' response. Jesus sends John's disciples back with stories of all He's been doing...healing the blind & lame, the dead are raised to life, and the good news is being preached. I've wondered sometimes if John, being human, battled within himself why Jesus wouldn't come "spring" him from prison, if He was doing all these other miracles. Was he disappointed that Jesus wouldn't do come free him? Why did Jesus say also to John, "God blesses thoese who are not offended by me.?
